About Body For Life Diet

how many times should you weight lift your legs?
I recently put on 15-20 pounds, not a huge deal but I'm tired of feel chunky and plan on taking it off not at the new year but before so that I don't gain 5 more during the xmas holiday. I really believe in the body for life diet without all the supplements although every now & then they are probably helpful but the diet itself is a clean diet. My question is about weight lifting, I used to weight lift whole body 3x a week, cardio 2-3 times for 45 min to an hour. Sometimes cardio and then pilates in one day. I know I overtrained according to their work out program and probably didn't eat 1/2 of the amount of calories I needed. Body for life suggest upper body 2x a week and lower body once and cardio 3x intense for 20 minutes. My concern is the lower body. I have strong legs but I would like to see them leaner...will once a week be sufficient? Or do they mean one week do upper 2x, lower once and alternate lower 2x and upper once. That makes more sense to me. Well when I worked with a trainer, I told him heavy legs for my routine and he put them in every work out but I was paying him. He did say that I was probably overdoing it with cycling, running, boxing, pilates, weight training, etc...too much. I want to simplify my work outs so that it stays off and I'm not feel overwhelmed, something I can stick to. I will try the upper one day, lower the next and then do the cardio on off weight training days. Thanks!

What is the best gym workout routine to loose weight?
I have recently started to go to the gym. Im a little bit overweight now that I have had a desk job for a while, and want to drop about 20-30 pounds. That is my first priority. Second, I would like to tone up. I dont want to add muscle and bulk up, but want to tone up what I have already. I have about 45 minutes each day Mon-Fri at the gym. What I do now is based on the body-for-life plan I used to follow. Its running for 20-30 minutes (usually on an elliptical) on Mon, Wed, and Fri. On Tues its upper body workout with nautilus equipment (biceps, triceps, pecs, shoulders, and back). On Thurs its lower body (Quads, Hamstrings, calves). And everyday I do some situps or crunches at the end. If you dont know the body for life workout plan, it involves doing a set at a medium weight level, and increase the weight each set through 5 sets. I also follow the body-for-life diet, but don't want to focus on diet in this question. Just want to get feedback and alternative suggestions on how to maximize my time at the gym to 1) loose weight and 2) tone up. Thanks
