My hubby's sister is pressuring him to donate his kidneys but I don't agree...?
Does that make me selfish or bad? My brother's elder sister has had diabetic since she was a teenager (now she's around 34 years old). Her kidney is failing and since she's so afraid of dialysis that might change the way she leads her life, she kept talking to my husband about donating a kidney to her since they have the same blood type. However, I don't agree with this as my husband has a lot of responsibilities (he's currently paying for his parents' house mortgage and supporting our family financially) and I am very afraid of any complications that might occur. We have one 8-month-old boy and I am currently pregnant with twins. His sister on the other hand, doesn't have any kids. His sister has not been taking care of herself - she even had her thighs cut off a few years ago because she didn't go on the strict diabetic diet. However, she still didn't learn her lessons and she still stores tons of chocolates in her fridge at her house and even drinks pepsi. I feel like she's being very selfish - she didn't take care of herself and now she wants my husband's kidneys. Other family members don't seem to pressure my husband to donate his kidney. I've discussed this with my husband and my husband also agreed that he won't be donating his kidney as he's pretty afraid of all the procedures. But I'm afraid that if she keeps pestering like this, he might change his mind. We already told his sister that we will support her financially if she needs it to go on dialysis while waiting for donor as we know this would require a lot of money. However, she keeps on don't want to do dialysis as it will impact her life since she probably has to find a different kind of job and couldn't go on vacations anymore (she likes to go on vacations overseas every few months or so). And right now, she shuts herself in her room - being negative about everything. I feel guilty for not wanting my husband to donate his kidney - but at the same time, I just don't feel that she deserves it. I feel like if he donates his kidney, the kidney would probably less less than 5 years with her lifestyle. It's not like there's no other match. My husband's parents and his younger brother also have the same blood type. But my husband is often the generous one with money and he would help financially if any of his siblings or parents need money - even though we have financial problem ourselves. I think this is why his sister thinks he would be generous with his kidney too. ARGHHHH! I really don't know what to think. Thank you everyone for your responses! They helped to put me to ease..
