About Metformin
Why is it ok to tell people they are fat to their face? Does the world have no manners anymore?I am very very overweight, but am on the path to fixing it. Two weeks ago I was 5'8 and 278lbs and a size 18. My doctor put me on metformin (an insulin regulating med) and phentermine (a weight loss aide), I have been eating between 1,200 and 1,400 calories a day, and working out a minimum of an hour a day. I have lost 10lbs in 2 weeks! So I'm on my way to being healthier. Anyways, part of why I am overweight (I say part because I do assume responsibility for my own actions) is I have a metabolic syndrome, PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome), insulin resistance, and rheumatoid arthritis. The first three conditions make it hard to lose weight because my hormones and metabolism are shot. The rheumatoid arthritis makes it hard to work out because my knee joints are always "on fire" and I've torn my meniscus 3 times (I am now on cortisone shots and pain killers). Anyways you would think my family and friends would be somewhat understanding that my situation was difficult, that it made it harder for me to lose weight. Instead, these are some of the comments I've had said to me: "Why are you making this so complicated? There's only one thing that causes people to be fat, it's being lazy and eating a lot. Fix that and you'll lose weight." "Don't you have a hard time looking in the mirror? Doesn't it motivate change?" "I miss you being skinny. You were skinny all the way til age 16 then it just piled on. You were so cute back then." "You are lucky a guy married you being so big. Most guys don't like big girls." Why do people think it's ok to say these things? Whatever happened to tact and manners? You can't comment on race, religion, economic status, or bad hair to someone's face but you can come out and insult their size? I don't get it. I will be 100% honest, this is what my doctor told me. My conditions make it more difficult for me to lose weight than the average person, but its up to me if I want to do the hard work and get it done. So far I am. Looking in the mirror was motivator for me, but the horrible things my family said did nothing but hurt

I'm not ovulating, so my doctor told me to...?
I haven't ovulated in over a year, and my husband and I desperately want to get pregnant. My doctor suggested I take 1500 mg of Metformin every day. He told me to first start taking just 500 mg every day for a week. That was fine. And then he said to take 1000 mg every day for another week. That was ok. I would feel a little nauseous, but it was nothing unbearable. And then he said to take 1500 mg. Oh, and yes, I have been sure to take it with food. Anyway, oh my word. 1500 mg is horrible! I only did that for three days and I was throwing up. I stopped taking it all together for about a week, and I've been feeling a lot better. I really want to ovulate, so I am trying it again. I've been taking 1000 mg the last couple of days, and I've been feeling ok. I am so nervous to try the 1500 mg again. Have any of you had any experience with this? Do you have any suggestions in case it makes me sick again? I want to get pregnant so badly!

Ovulation and getting pregnant?
So I was going to a fertility specialist and my husbands insurance doesn't cover her so I can't continue treatment. we did 6 rounds of clomid and it did not make me ovulate even on a 7 day dose. I take metformin for it as well. I do not have PCOS or Endometriosis and I tried using the fertilitea by Dr. Gruenburg. I even used OPKs all the time as well. I even lost 40 lbs in hopes that would help because the hormones are released with fat cell loss. HELP PLEASE! We have been trying for 4 yrs. I do take prenatal vitamins. I get my period almost always every 29 days for the past 9 months but there is no LH surge or any ovulation shown through blood work at all. I chart and everything. a baby aspirin? Might have to add that.

Would a doctor only prescribe Metformin if you were definitely diabetic?
Or would it be prescribed to reduce blood sugar level that was a bit high but not necessarily at a diabetic stage
